I just published my first note on Substack Notes, and would love for you to join me there! (Yes, you’ve seen a lot of us sending out this exact same post. No, it’s not a coincidence. Or is it?)
Notes is a new space on Substack for us to share links, short posts, quotes, photos, and more. Hopefully it will evolve into a better Twitter; that’s a while away, but it’s been impressive how responsive they have been in trying to fix problems and smooth out functionalities. For now it’s going to be mostly a chance to share short thoughts and ideas that don’t fit into a full newsletter post.
I really hope Notes succeeds because, at least from my metrics, Twitter seems to still be totally throttling links to Substack and is becoming basically useless for sharing my work. I typically got about 10% of my reads from Twitter, and here’s the breakdown from my last post:
Having a real alternative to Twitter has never been more important. Info on how to join is below.
Abu Aardvark's MENA Academy is a reader-supported publication. To receive new posts and support my work, consider becoming a free or paid subscriber.
How to join
Head to substack.com/notes or find the “Notes” tab in the Substack app. As a subscriber to Abu Aardvark's MENA Academy, you’ll automatically see my notes. Feel free to like, reply, or share them around!
You can also share notes of your own. I hope this becomes a space where every reader of Abu Aardvark's MENA Academy can share thoughts, ideas, and interesting quotes from the things we're reading on Substack and beyond.
If you encounter any issues, you can always refer to the Notes FAQ for assistance. Looking forward to seeing you there!
same here. I have thousands views of my substack links on twitter but only a tiny number of actual readers comes from there. I guess on twitter people read only titles now ..
